Everything you need before stepping into the city within the city
Planning Your Visit
Comfortable walking shoes are essential — tours cover 2 to 4 miles over paved surfaces. Dress for the weather and consider layers, as temperatures near the Mall can differ from shaded areas. We recommend breathable, weather-appropriate clothing. In summer, bring sunscreen and a hat; in winter, dress warmly as we will be outdoors for the full duration.
Our standard tours run approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. The Masonic City Unveiled and Diplomacy & Design tours are each around 2 hours, while the Secrets of the Capital experience runs closer to 2.5 hours. Private and custom tours can be adjusted to your preferred duration.
Your tour price includes expert narration from a trained Symbolic Director, all route planning and curated stops, and a digital reference guide sent after your tour. Admission to any ticketed monuments or museums, food, beverages, and transportation to the meeting point are not included.
We recommend our tours for guests aged 10 and older. The content is intellectually rich and best appreciated by those with some historical context. Children are welcome with an accompanying adult. There is no upper age limit — our tours are designed to be manageable for guests of all fitness levels.
Meeting Points & Logistics
Each tour has a specific meeting point in central Washington, D.C. The exact location is confirmed in your booking confirmation email. All meeting points are easily accessible via Metro. We recommend arriving 5 to 10 minutes early so we can begin on time. Your guide will be holding a small DC Unveiled sign.
We strongly recommend arriving by Metro or rideshare. Street parking in central D.C. is limited and unpredictable, and garage parking can be expensive. The most convenient Metro stations are noted in your booking confirmation. The DC Circulator bus is also a convenient and affordable option for getting around the Mall area.
Weather & Cancellations
Cancellations made 48 hours or more before the tour start time receive a full refund. Cancellations within 48 hours are non-refundable but may be rescheduled once at no charge, subject to availability. No-shows are non-refundable. To cancel or reschedule, use the links in your confirmation email or visit our Reschedule and Cancel pages.
Our tours operate in light rain — Washington's history doesn't pause for weather, and neither do we. We recommend bringing a compact umbrella or light rain jacket. Tours are cancelled only in the case of severe weather such as thunderstorms, extreme heat warnings, or hazardous conditions. If we cancel due to weather, you will receive a full refund or priority rebooking at no charge.
Group & Private Tours
Public tour groups are capped at 12 guests to ensure an intimate, high-quality experience. This limit allows your guide to engage meaningfully with every guest, answer questions in depth, and navigate Washington's busy public spaces comfortably. If your party exceeds this size, please enquire about a private tour.
Yes. Private tours are available for families, corporate groups, diplomatic delegations, and special occasions. Private bookings allow you to choose your date and time, customize the route and focus, and enjoy an exclusive experience without other guests present. Contact us via the Private Tours page or email dcunveiled@outlook.com for a tailored proposal.
Gift vouchers are available for any of our standard tours and make a distinctive present for history enthusiasts, travelers, and DC residents alike. Vouchers are delivered digitally and are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. Contact us at dcunveiled@outlook.com to arrange a gift voucher.
Accessibility & Special Needs
Our standard routes follow paved, level surfaces and are stroller-friendly. Most of the route is fully wheelchair accessible. If you or a member of your party has specific mobility needs, please contact us before booking so we can advise on the most suitable tour and route adjustments. We are committed to making our experiences as inclusive as possible.
Languages & Photography
Tours are offered in English, French, Arabic, and Spanish. Language availability varies by date — please check the tour booking page or contact us to confirm availability in your preferred language. Private tours can be arranged in any of these languages with advance notice.
Absolutely. Photography is encouraged throughout the tour. Many of our stops reveal architectural details and symbolic elements that reward a close lens. We ask that guests be respectful of other visitors at public sites and refrain from using flash photography inside any enclosed spaces. Your guide can point out the most striking photo opportunities along the route.
